Lancashire Cricket 2024

I got a booklet through the door the other day from Lancashire County Council and there was an article about the Farington cricket ground…

It stated that both squares are now complete and the outfields are developing on both Ovals…

It also said that a natural amphitheatre will provide enough room for up to 5,000 spectators.

Yeah the whole area has greened up nicely. I got the LCCC email yesterday and scanned down the fixtures half-expecting to see a couple of games at Farington!

I think that there will be some club games in 2025 but Lancashire won’t be playing there until 2026..

It will be nice to be able to jump in an Uber in Euxton and just over 5 minutes later be watching Lancashire ( men or women ) playing a game of cricket 👍🏻

Me and Mrs A went to this months Lancashire & Cheshire Cricket Society monthly meeting yesterday and the Guest Speaker
was Barry Wood….

I must admit that I wouldn’t have recognised him from his Lancashire days had the chairman of the meeting not introduced him….

The long blond curls are gone and are replaced by black hair and moustache ( probably out of a bottle )

It was very interesting to listen to his old tales of players that he had played with and against, he had some really good stories….

The one thing that stunned most people in the room was that he had never heard of Bazball, he didn’t know that Lancashire had been relegated and what became obvious was that he didn’t follow modern cricket at all …..

Also in the audience was his very good friend John Abrahams with whom he interacted a lot on some of his anecdotes…

Abrahams came across as a really nice bloke 👍🏻👍🏻

My final assessment of Barry was that he was a very interesting bloke to listen to but a bit up his own arse ….

Lancashire members had their Christmas meal last night and they had precisely zero former players or guest speakers of interest. By all accounts it was the most boring of evenings.

Jennings has signed a new contract until 2029. The rumours were that he might leave so that’s a positive at last!

Yeah, I was reading the comments on Facebook about the Lancashire Xmas Party…. It sounded a bit boring

From the photos it looked like they had a panel of Allot, Chilton and a couple of Academy players

The only plus seemed to be the food 👍🏻

In terms of player recruitment , I was pleasantly surprised and happy when I read about Jennings’ 5 year contract
We’ve also signed Michael Jones on a 3 year contract from Durham and Anderson Phillip is coming back for next season as well….

Providing we can keep Wells, Bohannon , Hurst and Aspinwall I am confident that we will be at the right end of Division 2….

We do need to strengthen our bowling attack some more…

Last year it was David Lloyd and his brother Clive - this year they actually had Michael Jones but it seems like it was a 100 propaganda session.

Like you say, we absolutely should come straight back up. I was a bit concerned that Hurst put himself forward for the IPL but he didn’t reach the final draft - but if he has a good Big Bash you never know. Mahmood won’t be playing any red ball cricket so we need an extra quick bowler but we might even have enough if we have few injuries. Second division cricket is pretty mediocre.

I forgot about Will Williams and Chris Green as well…..

We should have enough to get back up 👍🏻

I never knew David and Clive were brothers. It's only recently I discovered Mikey O'Neill was Brian's son and Mike Stowell was Li Bau Stowell's dad.
