Meanwhile in Syria

Re people returning, I’ll believe it when I see it.

But yes, I’d heard Syria was nice(ish) in parts before all this nonsense. That’s a good article.

It wouldnt even make a small dent in our immigration figures, I believe theres onl about 20k Syrians here

Beautiful Physics, Sid, I can imagine you taught Newton everything you know 🥰

You're spot on about the gravitational force equation between the bullet and the earth, but if the bullet is fired at 3,000 km/h, travels upwards until 0 km/h, then as Prof Reg mentioned the air resistance means it would only ever achieve around 500 km/h on its way down.

(Even slower if it hits an albatross or a migrating chiffchaff)

Still plenty enough to kill though.

Just Googled… and very disappointed to find that chiff chaffs so indeed migrate.

We’ve got the BBC referring to the “Rebels” as Islamists and acknowledging that some Syrians are worried about this- but the tone is generally saying that a good thing has happened in Syria. And the other news networks I’ve personally seen are also running with this being something to be celebrated.

As @raefil said yesterday, HTS (which seems to be at the heart of this) is a proscribed group.

Is there any other angle to this?

Once the regime falls this will just end up in one big blood bath between the different religious factions.

I confess I have just become blasé about all Middle Eastern politics now and the above is how I see it. One version of a mad religious cult being used to justify power grabs for some unbelievably despicable characters vs another.

I worry that we have thousands of Syrians in our country who have fled persecution by the previous nutcase. Now no doubt we will get many of his followers fleeing persecution by the current incumbent. I am concerned we are just importing middle eastern problems on to our streets.

The telegraph describing ISIS as "Diversity Friendly," is quite a thing.

All very confusing and, I must say, quite pleasant to find on this thread that everyone is taking their time in ascertaining what is playing out before jumping to conclusions backing one side over the other.

One thing I will say is it looks as if Israel have just done what the US failed to do in Afghanistan, as they have dropped air missiles on chemical weapons and rocket launchers (no civilians involved, yet) to ensure they don't fall into the wrong hands.

Thousands of prisoners released, who were being held because they didn’t agree with Assad. Including a toddler ffs. A big embarrassment for Putin who’s backed the murderous Assad .
