New pub for Preston?

Plungy nearly ready and looks like major changes inside akin to those the former Black-A-Moor received during its refurb to achieve a wet led (no food), multi-screen, sports bar vibe. It even comes with a DJ booth.

Given both the sports bar and DJ at the weekend approach has been tried by the last couple of tenants I'm not overly convinced this will work but good luck to the couple taking it on.

Went into Wings and Beer yesterday for the 1st time and I was very impressed with it.

Had an American Pale Ale 5% (£4) and an Hawaiian Ale at 4.4% (£7.10).

Will be going again, certainly.

It’s great for watching footy matches, loads of screens and a great choice of ales.

I’ve been in a few times and it does get busy when there’s a big night of Champions League footy on…..

I don't think they've ever been able to capture that "vibe" it had when Conti/Plau (can't remember exactly!) were running it. The beer was good, the food was good, it was busy every weekend and during the week for the most part. Then when it closed and the "Save the Plungy" campaign happened, when it did re-open it just kind of reverted back to what it was before the refurb and people just weren't interested anymore.

Personally I'm not a fan of pubs having DJs/Karaoke blasting out, I think it puts people off. Background music from the bar and decent pints will do for me, especially in a pub like the Plungy... but I'm not a pub landlord so what do I know haha!

I really do hope it works out for them though, the area needs a decent pub!

They say they’ll be doing real ales so hopefully that might pull a few more in.

It’s not a new pub but I went to the Golden Tap in Leyland last night for the first time..

It’s a lovely little micro pub on Chapel Brow not far from Leyland Train station.

Me and Mrs A had been for a meal at Beijing to celebrate her 10 year old Alfa passing its MOT ( any excuse )
and we popped in the Golden Tap after , which was only two doors up from the Chinese Restaurant….

They had a fantastic range of real ales , ciders and stouts.

I had the Stout but can’t remember what it was called…

We will definitely be going back, it’s a nice cozy bar and the owners / staff were very friendly..

Golden Tap and Markey Ale House are about the only decent pubs in Leyland at the moment

Dark Beer Festival this weekend up town - the Dark Side of Preston,

Plug & Taps, Guild Ale House, Black Horse, Winckley Ale House & Chain House Brewing will all have a good selection of dark beers. As a fan of them, I won't be missing this! (especially as Guild Ale House will have a couple of ales from Blue Monkey).

When is this, mate?

My old man likes a dark beer so might wander into town with him after the game on Saturday (if its on Saturday)

Ooo proper up my street that. See you there!

Paid a visit to the Plungy on Saturday night, it was busy, There was a Dj and Karaoke, wouldn’t have more than a couple under those circumstances, but a decent band/group on We would. Prices are actually exactly the same as the Wheatsheaf. The only “ale” they had on was Specked hen, hubby said it was a very good pint. Hopefully they will broaden their choice over time, went in the wheatsheaf too, it was packed they had a decent group on. Hubby said it’s the same brewery that has the Wheatsheaf, so will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months
