Since Trevor Hemmings took over the club he has employed 3 different Managers and they all seem to have one thing in common. They have all fallen out with certain players.
I don't understand this falling out with players and does not endear itself to a happy working environment.
I am not going to try and convince anyone of anything. These are just my views and observations.
Darren Ferguson: Lots of fans made their minds up about him before he arrived {a bit like Westley} and he was tasked to drastically cut the wage bill and get rid of several of the high wage earners. He did this but not without falling out with a few players who he vowed would never play in a PNE shirt again.
Phil Brown: Brought in to try and avoid relegation. He was given sufficient time but did not get a win under his belt for 12 games. That made the job almost impossible and the inevitable happened. Brown had a reasonable pre season but after a first game defeat against Colchester, he fell out with Craig Morgan and made him a scapegoat. That clearly got the season off on the wrong foot and although he turned things round with 7 successive wins the team and in particular the defence didn't appear to be operating as they should. A poor run and constantly playing players out of position eventually became his demise.
Graham Westley: A bit similar to Ferguson as some fans made up their own minds about him before he arrived. He has fallen out with a few already and has made his job more difficult than it needed to be. Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes.
The chopping and changing of Manager's is not acceptable and I believe the club has learned from it's recent mistakes and will give Westley time to get things right.
We haven't chosen the wrong Manager's in the past. The Chairman/Owner haven't backed them properly. Ferguson wasn't backed at the beginning of the season which was the time he should have been supported {Dickinson and Matt Phillips} would have made a vast difference. Brown was allowed to bring in 3 very poor strikers and we all know what effect that had on the team.
Westley has been backed short term, but he really needs to be backed properly in Summer in order to assemble a decent/competitive team.
I have every confidence in Westley turning things round but not until the Summer. I was also confident that Ferguson and Brown would have done a good job for us but unfortunately they didn't get the backing at the right time. It is no good trying to soldier through until Christmas and then invest in January to kick on. The time to sort the team out is in the Summer and then knocked into shape in pre season.
Sorry I've rambled on but to summarise, the 2 things that I believe have played the biggest part in our demise are:
1} The Chairman/Owner have not supported their Manager until the shit has hit the fan by which time confidence has been shot at.
2} All 3 Managers have fallen out {and made it public} with players which is not good for the harmony of the team.
I can't wait for this season to end...........I just hope we are still in League 1 when it ends.
