Matchday Thread PNE v Aberdeen - 22/07/23 - KO:3PM - Friendly

No disrespect to Aberdeen, it was a friendly and they had some talented players. Their support was fantastic, not just the numbers but the volume. My brother in law played for the Dons and always quotes the Aberdonians who’ve graced Deepdale like Alex Dawson whose pictures adorn the stairs up to the Invincible Lounge.
Who was your brother in law Dick Dastardly? (How’s Mutley by the way? 😂 haha used to love that.)

Weegie = Glaswegian = Rangers or Celtic (hun or tim).

Also Partick Thistle, but they don't feature so much in our consciousness these days...
Norwegian Black metal gig in Glasgow, the singer asks “Celtic or Rangers?” The place goes silent, and a voice at the back shouts “Patrick Thistle”

Just watched the highlights on the official site. OK they are highlights and it was a friendly but we seemed to move the ball forward and move with it in ways that were unrecognisable from most of last season. Froekjaer seems to be a mix of languid ease when passing the ball and utter ruthlessness when shooting. Perhaps the defence was a little flat-footed at times and that is where I feel a little apprehension - a mobile, left-footed player for that part of the team might prove a key addition. But let's see what the next few days bring in terms of further additions - I think we all hope that one prospective acquisition was rather obviously flagged up on Saturday. Otherwise we are perhaps getting a bit top-heavy and one or two outgoings might be needed - I won't suggest names - to keep the squad at a reasonable size not least because we need to think in terms of giving some of our youngsters some first team experience. RL has indicated he has noticed that when given the chance to impress in the pre-season they have done so.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game yesterday and thought the whole team did well baring a few mistakes here and there from a few of them, but it’s pre season best get those out of the way now to learn from them.

I hope Mads and Ali McCann (in particular) can replicate their performances in the Championship if they can I’m proper excited for the new season. I thought Aberdeen were much better second half and their fans did them proud.

Forgot to mention our young players, they did themselves proud yet again.

Do PNE run a DNA scheme like Aberdeen do? It’s basically another way for fans to contribute more money to the club.Seems to work well, I’ve got five.

Cheers Rankine but do not approach who or what? It remains a mystery to me what it is.
It’s a membership scheme where supporters make a commitment to pay a certain amount monthly and get discounts through a point system.. as far as I can tell your membership allows you to put your money in areas that you think are important like youth development .. kind of a Patreon scheme they call it AberDNA .. a play on words which i suppose means you have Aberdeen in your blood .. marketing 🤔

Thank you so much.

Thanks for the warm welcome, not sure I've ever met a friendlier set of fans.

We were crap, let's face it. And that defence we put out wouldn't be seen in a competitive match..at least I hope not!
Saying that, you can only beat what's in front of you & you looked decent to be fair. Mads & I think his name was Potts, both stand outs for me.
Best of luck going forward & I'll keep an eye out for your results 👍
