Matchday Thread PNE v Sunderland - 23/08/23 - KO:3PM - Championship

Can see us grinding out a result today with a packed midfield and a couple of set-piece goals.

if we play on the front foot I can see an exciting game with a chance of a decent result. if we park the bus and play safety first I don't see us getting anything from this game.

It can't be understated how important it is to put in some good performances at home & get the crowd on board.

If we start to struggle again & RL spouts his inevitable nonsense in the aftermath then the writing be on the wall & it's gonna be a long old season.

That said I think we can win this today.

We can get a result against this lot

However I think we’ll get slapped by them. Their style is everything our players struggle against

We were wide open in midfield last season in the last game with 3 strikers starting. Won’t make that mistake again (as we don’t have 3 strikers). Cram the midfield to snuff them out, hit them on the counter like Ipswich did I say. One change from Bristol, Holmes for Ledson

I'm looking forward to today (and this season in general) with rather more trepidation than usual. Here's hoping my trepidation is unwarranted.
Last week gave me grounds for cautious optimism but we must get on the front foot.
In far too many home games last season we took too long to get going.
Hope we don’t become too reliant on Keane for goals. Hopefully he’ll get some back up in the coming week

Hope all of you have a good time at Deepdale and enjoy the match. Like I have said on several posts I have totally lost interest and not renewed my ST. I think several factors have resulted in my malaise over the club. In my 60s and used to be keen as mustard and didn't understand those who weren't....but decades of mediocrity and underachieving and leaving the ground deflated and frustrated have finally taken their toll.
Taking dogs to beach instead and have a stress free afternoon.
Would love to rekindle my love of match days but something's just not there anymore.
So...go and enjoy it as I once did.

Good luck to the lads today.

Sunning myself abroad but plenty more days to watch some scintillating football at Deepdale throughout the season.

Love the optimism from the above posts but I can't see us getting anything this afternoon but obviously I hope I'm wrong.

Our defence is going to be a problem I fear.

Hoping for the best, expecting worse.
Sunderland seem to have a striker problem at the moment, liste to the comments on their first game, plenty of creativity out wide but nobody to finish off chances.
