I hope it’ll be refurbished. Haven’t been for a few years but Moody Blues Ellie Brooks The Dubliners Leo Sayer, Killer Queen Last night at the proms Liverpool Philharmonic Orcestra, that was a regular thing too, it was a great venue, what’s wrong with Preston City Council? Some groups/bands as they call them these days, don’t like performing to big venues, Sleeping Council bereft of ideas.

Not a pop at BeteNoir but I’m not sure why, when discussing the future of the Guild Hall, we are obsessed with attracting ‘big’ artists. For my sins i spend a lot of time in Bromley and regularly attend the Churchill Theatre. This is a sample of what they’ve got on in 2025 ……. Churchill 2025.

Fingers crossed it’s worked but if it hasn’t feel free to Google them. They have a capacity of 781 and I think it should be a model for what The Guild Hall could do in the future.

I was reading an article in the LEP yesterday in which they quoted someone from the City Council saying that they are prioritising the refurbishment of the Guild Hall over any new project to build a new arena…..

The Council rep went on to say that they will possibly consider building a new arena sometime in the future but it won’t be anytime soon…..

I think the point is big name artists attract bigger audiences and bring vital money in to the city centre at night. They might not be my thing either but they obviously need bigger venues.

I think @Jack Daniels was right on one of his previous posts when he said that Preston needs a venue that can hold about 10,000…

Venues such as the AO arena and CoOp live are too big for some acts with capacities of 22,000

I don’t think we can get the biggest names but surely we should be attracting some second tier acts, at the moment we don’t have anything. For a city the size of ours, that includes south ribble it’s a disgrace.

I agree….

Surely some of the acts who attend Lytham could be tempted to Preston if and when the Guild Hall is refurbed

I don’t think we’d attract big names now, and why do we need to? Lots of groups/bands prefer smaller venues. Blackburn attracts artists at king George Hall, smaller than our Guild Hall and the one time I went car parking was abysmal. Not a problem with the bus car parking here.

cant see guildhall being done up, its sat on arguably the most expensive piece of land in city centre, imo council are buttering folk up for it being demolished, only thing believable in the LEP is the date, shame as the guildhall has some happy memories for me
