Remembering The North End Gentry - Dedication & Tributes

I read recently that the guy who wrote Clockwork Orange worked in the Black Bull in the Brig. Now whether he was influenced by the Gentry or vice versa I m not sure.

The Gentry started in 1970 , not sure when Clockwork Orange was written tbh ??

I would like to see North End do this at home once a season, either first home game or last, surely most North Enders would have someone who supported the club that they'd like to remember.

Or is there some sort of football league rule as to when you can have a minutes silence or similar?

This is something that Joan is working with the club about at the moment Plungy, we hope to have some more news on this very soon.

I would personally like to thank everyone who supported The Gentry, and the true meaning of this unique footballing tribute from our own supporters. It was brilliant to see older supporters who were part of the original gentry which was NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING HOOLIGANS, AND WAS TAKEN FROM A QUOTE FROM ALAN BALL SNR, and younger supporters.

I for one hope that "The Gentry" is reformed every year, and I hope it helps people remember and cherish their loved ones, and it continues to bring together Prestionians of all ages.

Although tossers like Waitingroom, make me wonder if its all worth the hassle.

alan ball was talking about Prestons hooligans, the gentry was a firm, what year did you start watching north end?

What a fucking cock knocker.

As I understand it the Gentry was formed on the back of Ball's comments, Ball was not talking of hooligans.

Absolutely spot on........waitingforgod seems to want to re-write the history books.

He is effectively saying that all the fans who followed the club away in the early days of Alan Ball's tenure were Hooligans.

Alan Ball called all the away fans Gentry - end of story

its not often being an oldie gives you anything to brag about but in this case i will make an exception. I WAS THERE YOU OBVIOUSLY WERE NOT AND ARE TALKING BOLLOCKS not for the first time i might add !
Alan Ball senior was a legend in my opinion and the senior management of the club treated him badly, sadly over all these years things dont seem to have improved much in that respect at our club.

If thats the case you are either barmy, have no idea of the definition of a football firm or both and from your previous ramblings i would have to go for both !

Didn't the hooligans back then adopted the name 'The Gentry' for their firm's name.

Not the other way round.

I think that may be the case, so whilst Bally was talking about the fans, the firm (that word wasn't used then either) was deffinitely called "The Gentry" and they were the ones with the clockwork orange attire.

I'm sure we did this a few years back at the first home game of the new calendar year in memory of anyone from the previous year.
