The away match at Bolton on Saturday 3rd March has been selected as the date for this years annual Gentry day.

Whilst our supporters are enjoying themselves on the day it is right to remember what Gentry Day is all about, which is remembering members of the North End community who are no longer with us.

Once again PNE-Online are proud to support Gentry Day and as ever we have a dedicated thread for users to post the names, memories or stories of people you would wish to be remembered by the Preston North End supporters on Gentry Day in Horwich.

Feel free to post as much or little detail as you like and everyone who will be donning their bowlers at The Macron will do so in their memory.

I'll get the ball rolling with my Dad. He was a left winger in his younger days who had trials with both Notts County and Mansfield during his National Service days while stationed in Worksop. Loved his football and took me on my first game. Taught and encouraged both me and my brother to become half-decent players and, of course, to love PNE. Still have a photo of him on my wall scoring a screamer from outside the box at Meadow Lane, clad in baggy shorts and hob-nail boots.
Cheers Dad.
Always remembered.

My much loved Dad. He was a very proud Prestonian and I think it’s probably why I’m so defensive of our great City and it’s people, there are no better anywhere in the world.

My dad was not a great football fan but, would always talk about North End when I saw him, he said that was because he knew I loved North End so would always keep up with them for my sake. Dear me, I miss him but I will always be proud of Preston especially for him because in my eyes he was the best Prestonian I have ever known.

Every single veteran that supported our club or hails from Preston that has put their lives on the line for us all.

Jimmy Milne, genial pipe smoking manager as Walter Pilkington used to call him 24 Jan 1911to 13 Dec 1997. Took North end to the Wembley cup final 1964 playing some of the best free flowing football I've seen then and now. And so many of that team now departed. Alan Kelly George Ross , Jim Smith, howard Kendall Tony singleton Nobby Lawton, Alec Ashworth, Alañ Spavin. Thanks for the memories.

Great Grandad Richard - started watching in early 1880' - before Invincibles - still walking 15 miles to home games in his 80's after the 2nd war.
Grandad William - started watching in 1896 until he died in 1970's. Went to Wembley in 38 but had to leave to catch a train before Mutch scored and missed the winner!
Mum Edna - started watching in 1930 and never missed a season until her death in 2013 - went to Wembley in 54; 64 & 94.

From them my passion for PNE comes and passes on to my 4 children.

My Grandad talking about Finney... "Cost me a bloomin fortune in caps that bugger, it was worth it tho`"

My Dad`s claim to fame... "I kept Tommy out of the First team"..... Deepdale Secondary Modern school he said. Nice one Dad.

Both long gone, miss them both and all the stories.

Fortunately not been personally affected in the past year, but will be proudly wearing the bowler hat next Saturday.

Condolences to all who have lost someone close.

Wow.

No history like that.

My PNE adventure started withgoing with my schoolmate Billy Cook in 1962, no idea if he is still with us, he has a lot to answer for.

Then going with my neighbour in Talbot Rd Tony Langton, especially that 63/64 season.

Now all my grown up kids are Nobbers although they have never lived in Preston, they will all be there with bowlers at Bolton, and a few grandkids too. Costs me a fortune!

It might cost you a fortune euro, but it's worth it to see all those PNE fans thanks to you, aint it?

My adventure with PNE started in '54 when my dad took me on aged 8. He and his two brothers (uncles Bob and Harry) walking up Skeffington rd towards the ground among a real throng of people all excitedly discussing whether Finney would be playing. a year or two later trotting alongside Dad hurrying along Blackpool Rd as Dad had worked his shift at Cortaulds (6am - 2pm) walked home, shoved his dinner down his neck and then rushing towards the ground.

All three now gone..............but NEVER forgotten.

Good lad Roy. I made those same journeys down Skeffy or Blackpool Rd with my dad too.

Euro - unbroken 5 generations of PNE fans since the cricket club days......not many of us have that 135+ years connection.......(and I'm still not an ambassador).

It's something that leaves an indelible mark on you and your soul which you can't remove, not that we would want to eh?

What period was it when you made those journey's Harry?
Early 70s, Roy. Grew up near blessed scarement/ribbleton hall, then moved on to new hall lane when I was about 9. When I was old enough to be allowed on PNE with my mates we used to meet up, scarves round wrists, by the house of Holland.

You're just a young whipper-snapper then 🙂

We've both been through the mill with N.E.
