Paraphrasing here, but PH said there were 5 players (names 'Peter' had found) but he didn't have a clue who they were.
You're getting a couple of bits mixed together in there.

He said "Peter had a list of players, or had conversations, but it's on hold, you can't do anything"
As in a list of players that's been passed on by PH and the recruitment team, but it's been on hold as not sure what league we'll be in.

Then goes on to say "“But again, the competition for those players is immense. If you stand here right now, there's probably five faces I wouldn't have a clue who it would be. That'll all evolve in the summer."

Referring to the free transfers, permanents and loans we're interested in. Because at the moment he isn't really going to know everyone who we're going to end up with as it depends who we can actually get.

100% this - north end fans love a moan… most sensible post I’ve read I so far as I go down this thread!

Indeed I've been very critical of the club but I'm laughing at those complaining about the lack of quality in the squad because that's the point. We have huge gaps to fill and all the players gone are largely ones we wanted to go anyway!

Time will tell whether we can replace them all with better. And whether Lindsay and Hughes will be squad number 24 and 25.

Think everyone knows we had to trim down to barebones numbers to clear out and rebuild

What’s worrying is when you strip down the numbers, who are the core we’ve chosen to keep.

Whiteman, Lindsay etc aren’t exactly going to drive us to a Championship Play Off Final. But they’re the ones deemed worthy of long term status and will be the senior core remaining and influencing the dressing room as it stands. We already knew they were staying but when you see such a bare team sheet their presence seems more comical.

I hope the strategy is to generate some transfer funds and offload a few of that lot too tbh, although we all know they’ll still be here after the summer. Are they going to suddenly start pulling up trees now?

Are you taking that from the post Bristol C interview? I watched that but don’t remember him saying anything about Peter finding players? I know he said something like he didn’t have a clue who five of the players would be, but that’s not the same thing as Ridsdale picking them.

Yes.

I've obviously mis-interpreted what he said when I watched/listened to the interview. And reading (rather than listening) to the interview, it sounds like he gave Ridsdale a list of players. Or at least I hope that's what happened!

“Whatever we need to do to get the best squad. It's going to depend, isn't it? Peter had a list of players, or had conversations, but it's on hold, you can't do anything. If you get your ‘Plan A’ then fantastic, but it generally doesn't happen, so you have to be ready to move and just go with the flow of that to get the best possible squad.

But again, the competition for those players is immense. If you stand here right now, there's probably five faces I wouldn't have a clue who it would be. That'll all evolve in the summer. There's a core there we need to add to. I think we've shown lots of good characteristics throughout the season, and I keep saying the same things every week, where we need to improve, so that's it."

Both would be acceptable as members of a squad requiring depth. The worry is they will be starters and that's not good enough.

It's great for Kamara and I'm pleased for him but surely he knows this doesn't mean much for his career, going off our track record of playing youth in the first team he needs to get out as soon as he can. I feel so sorry for any youngster joining our club. We are a disgrace and a massive waste of everyone's time and effort.

"It's dead simple... the fans tell us we ought to refresh the squad," said Ridsdale. "Then, we have a few out of contract and they want to know why they are out of contract. Well, if they are not out of contract I can't refresh the squad."

Maybe Pete is such a genius that he thought renewing Lindsay storey Hughes and letting riis go means we can refresh the squad in the areas that we need to concentrate on.

That’s a bit of a stretch. An emergency loan with the window closing, he hadn’t even got his feet under the table and there probably wasn’t anybody else available for next to nowt.
I think Bowler was absolutely a PH signing.

But also everything quoted is also true.

I think Bowler was a reasonable punt in the circumstances. It definitely didn't work out, but at the time it seemed reasonable. I don't think it's really fair to critique PH on that one.

(The no termination clause, absolutely reasonable to critique however)

Go on... tell me how we clear out contracted players ???

You can't make them redundant as employment law wont allow you to sign replacements if you do! its the job not the person who is redundant!

Hopefully if Ched signs it will be instead of '~Pete#'' I also hope some of those are asked to TRY and find a new club if they want first team footy...

Last night showed there are worse CB's in the playoffs than we have........so I hope we focus on better striker options...and pace out wide.
This is interesting… I wonder if you can make a player redundant if you changed your playing formation (you definitely couldn’t make your RB redundant and then recruit another one, but saying we no longer need a RB as we are playing with a RWB might be arguable??)
