Firstly I am genuinely surprised at the reaction from some after last night.

Yes, I was disapointed & felt flat in the first half but Arsenal's starting 11 would give most PL teams a game.

Hecky stuck between a rock & hard place, imagine if McCann got injured in a league Cup game?

However, seen lots of comments on the atmosphere and then this from the club re safe standing not being on "the agenda."

The atmosphere was flat as 5000 of those attending are not really PNE fans but football fans, who don't have that passion for the club that we do.

As someone who works at it, even our loalyist of fans won't get involved.

Instead of moaning on social media and the like they need to be proactive.

That said, the club have to install safe standing on the Town End, across the back 10 rows or something to help.

Idealy they would split the kop so not to force a move but if it means upsetting some season ticket holders so be it.

£500k to install it? Really, your telling me Burnley spent 500k on the rails at Turf Moor in the old shed?

The top corner of the Town End kept trying to get something going early on but it wasnt spreading, possibly due to the day trippers who arent really fans, then they seemed to give up trying to start anything.
The club definitely need to do something to help the atmosphere, i feel rail seating would be a big step in doing this, the old town end was always loud but all seater stadiums killed off atmospheres all over the country.
£500k isnt a big outlay for the Hemmings family and i dont believe it would count towards FFP, but PNE as usual are slow to respond to change and will get left behind while everyone else does it

They simply don't care about the atmosphere. I'm not entirely sure they care about the club at all other than how much it's costing them each year.

Things will never improve off the field while they own the club and the apathy displayed towards it by the owners translates to the majority of the fans.

Last night, the first 10 mins of the game where we barely touched the ball killed any hope of an atmosphere. In games like that you need to be putting in big challenges early on to get the crowd up and to let Arsenal know they're gonna be in for a battle. We never did that and just stood and watched while they bopped us off the park.

Yet the safe standing for Portsmouth went unsold for much longer than the seated! I’m not saying it shouldn’t happen in fact I believe it absolutely should but don’t hold your breath with the current custodians.

I think last night was a complete waste of money for Preston fans but I don’t think any blame PH and SMc, we all know where the blame lies and the Manager being forced into that situation is shameful. The atmosphere was flat because our game was flat and no one is going to jump about watching that. Reaction follows proaction we just weren’t proactive with anything last night.

I kept trying to get things going/spreading but the fact that we were just watching Arsenal pass the ball around didn't help.

JK's initial post is spot on. Even Gooch seems to have stopped with his big waver in the middle and I'm not surprised. He's putting the effort in when he's also bringing his little one to the game. People need to step up.

I was thinking back to the atmosphere when we played them in 2016/2017.

We had a bit of momentum from the promotion in 2015. We also had popular songs/chants for the following players:

Aiden McGeady
Calum Robinson
Alan Browne
Daniel Johnson
Ben Pearson
Paul Huntington
Tommy Clarke
Jordan Hugill

We went at them from the off and the atmosphere was the reverse of last night. Not a peep from Arsenal for most of the match.

At times in the last 2 seasons we’ve got behind them and got the players over the line in a game.

You can’t keep singing and waving flags for a poor product it’s as simple as that. Owners aren’t bothered and like everything else the attitude was always going to trickle down. That’s not to say I don’t appreciate JK and all his work, I absolutely do, but I just think until the culture of this club changes then mediocre will earn you exactly what we have, indifference.

What happens on the pitch definitely dictates the mood in the stands and last night from a North End point of view, nothing happened on the pitch ….

I started a thread about the atmosphere against Norwich. In that first 20 minutes it was none existent and we were playing lovely football and got ourselves 2-0 up. The players did their bit, we didn't.

Oh well the players got paid quite handsomely anyway. Mind you I’m surprised the atmosphere was so flat after getting 3 points……….oh wait 🙄 The atmosphere was flat because we invited so much pressure the game went flat. Don’t let an opportunity to blame fans pass you by though.

Agree fully @JK. Been banging the drum on Safe Standing for some time with the club. They need to listen and embrace the changing environment. Doing nothing isn’t good enough

They had it at Chelski last season when we went. Looking forward to seeing how Pompey do it at our level next week.

The problem with change at North End is there's a big, fat roadblocker who's installed a culture of 'bare minimum' complacency that resists anything that looks like hard work.

The best - only - way the PSC, Forum, or anyone else can realistically bring about change is to work out a way to put pressure on Sleepy Pete or the enablers above him.

Sorry to sound like a stuck record, but . . .

Agreed. They won't even spend money cleaning the stadium and keeping it well maintained, so I'm not surprised the miserable tight-arses won't spend money on safe standing.

Incidentally, Shrewsbury have safe standing and I doubt it cost them £500k.

Cheer up Joan, my God!

And then when you've cheered up read my post again.

You liked this post "What happens on the pitch definitely dictates the mood in the stands and last night from a North End point of view, nothing happened on the pitch …."

But then as I said, first 20 minutes, when we are playing well we didn't get behind them, the nervous attitude seeps onto the pitch, the players sit deeper and deeper and that is perhaps why we couldn't hold out for a win against a better team.

Also while you continue to cheer up, have a read of this, plenty agreed with me.

Well I will be honest I’m struggling to cheer up after last nights abject display. Sorry for being passionate about Preston and North End and struggling to accept “it’s only Preston” .

I thought the atmosphere for Norwich was good until we totally capitulated AGAIN. We were tripe after the second goal went in we sat back as usual and invited pressure, but you believe it was the fans fault radiating defensive action from the stands, because the team have never set back even on one goal have they. Do get a grip, why employ managers if the crowd dictates the way the team plays🙄

You see what you want to see and hear what you want to hear to blame and beat the fans with. These players are fully grown men not frightened little boys scared of crowds and they are paid and trained to perform to the requirements of their manager not their fans. Don’t talk wet.

All of that is pretty much incorrect but I respect your right to be wrong.

You have a hissy fit every time someone questions any actions of our supporters. WE (that's all of us) need to take some responsibility with regards to the atmosphere. If that fact upsets you then so be it. Why would I use things to "beat the fans?" I'm one of them.

Read the original thread, the team get the crowd up for games and the crowd can help the team get through games or back into games. It's a two way street at every level of football. You must have heard of the legendary Anfield crowd in midweek European matches and the magic of it. I know you've supported this team and followed football for many years but if you've not grasped that concept yet then you never will.

£500k to install it? Really, your telling me Burnley spent 500k on the rails at Turf Moor in the old shed?

Firstly, I am surprised at the £500k quoted to install. At actually how low a figure that is. £500k seemingly doesnt buy you much these days. Personally , I'd like to see traditional terracing in the bottom half of the AKTE as opposed to "rails". But I realise that this has been done to death before, I'm an old fart who yearns for the old days & it will just NEVER happen. I'm not convinced that a rail seated area would be a good ROI to the atmosphere. It would be still flat except you'd get aching legs and back. I also recall that their has been a good atmoshphere in the stadium in years gone by since it became all seater. Atmospher is a two way thing & the team are slowly step by step doing their bit fiollowing the dirge of the last couple of years. Hecky & the team are deserving of better. What could work is a designated singing block behind the goals of the AKTE & maybe then people in the surrounding areas wouldnt feel they are on their own when chanting? We have tried flags, drums & trumpets. How about a single fan leading the chanting with a loud hailer speaker, as you see with teams on the continent? Would I put myself forward to do it?.... Would I buffalo !..What's Crazy Pete doing these days?
