Summer 2022 : Transfer Window Rumours and Discussion

I have followed Carlton Morriss' progress since his youth days with Norwich City. He was in the Norwich team as a striker that won the FA Youth Cup in 2013 against Chelsea, in that team was Harry Toffolo who is now with Huddersfield and played against us on Wednesday.

Given Morriss' size, 6'2", and age, hes has just turned 26 in December, I would have expected him to have scored more goals than he has. He has played 179 games, 32 of these with Hamilton up in Scotland, he has only scored 31 times, 8 for Hamilton, this equates to only 1 goal every 5.8 games or 8 goals a season. Is this enough goals or do would we require a more prolific scorer.

From first watching him in his youth days I thought that the future was very bright for him, but for me, he hasn't reached his full potential by any means.
Decent return this season at our level though, so maybe a case of just taking a long time to find his feet.

I'd much prefer us to sign a 10 a season Championship striker with physical qualities, than a guy who has bagged 20+ in L1 or SPL.

what’s the DL on Mikey O’Neil, he a real talent? @llanroc @sports rehab
He has really blossomed in his 2nd year as a scholar..... didnt start too many games last year but is one of the main 'men' this year....
Came through youth football alongside JoeRG as a 2 up top pair i believe..... plays more in the 10 or 8 now, occasionally plays wide or as a 'false 9'......

i wouldnt say he looks very strong but his touch and awareness are top class for a kid...

his younger brother is on Blackburns books after 'we' didnt bother to take him on at about 12....

He comes from Southport way and his Dad's a big Liverpool fan - so he understands Ryan Lowe !!! 😉😉

Personally think he’s better further back as defensive or central midfielder, don’t think he’s the answer attacking wise, although there is time to see.

Against Hull he had 3 really good passages of attacking play, playing it down the channels for our player to attack on of the CB's 1v1.

He also drove into the box for Browne's disallowed goal.

Very good player and will be needed for a full promotion campaign.

My target would be Kane Wilson at forest green, OOC in summer I believe as well.
Us and half the league! Big fan of him, compo would be due to FGR. Discussed on the Watch List thread a couple of months ago.

What do we need?

At least 2x GK
1x RCB (Sepp replacement)
1x RWB (Olosunde (remember him) replacement)
1x LWB
1x 10
1x Striker option

So initial thoughts on possibles.....

GK: Jamie Cumming, Nathan Baxter (loans Chelsea), Gavin Bazunu (loan Man City)

RWB: Kane Wilson (Forest Green)

10: Panutche Camara (Plymouth)

Do we need a RCB? Or will Storey and Bambo be here?

Not sure about Camara for the 10. If we’re going to bring another one in I would rather bring in a technical one to take the pressure off DJ, rather than another runner

Agree with that, although I’d probably bring in two strikers to compete with Riis and Ched and try to shift Maguire if possible.
Kesler on loan from Villa for RWB potentially, he’s doing well at MK Dons. Steve Seddon from Oxford I wouldn’t mind for LWB, with Sykes from Accy for RCB if we decide to not renew Bambo.

I’d absolutely love Sykes from Accrington but he wouldn’t be cheap. I’ve seen Middlesbrough’s name floating round this week who are after him so that’s a bidding war we’d lose currently.

Another centre back I like the look of who I think could be realistic is Tom Hamer at Burton. He plays mainly as full back or wing back at burton but imo he’s a lot more suited to the right of a back 3.

For RWB - Nymambe from Rovers is OOC I believe this summer. Sure he’s one we’ve looked at before.

For the number 10 - I like the look of Rudoni Wimbledon. Different player to DJ where he’s not great on the ball but he’s a goal scorer. Think he’s a realistic target for us who would fit in quite well.

Finn Azaz Aston Villa, currently on loan at Newport County, very similar to DJ although a lot taller. Needs to improve on his number of goals, but he's a bit selfless. One of the reasons Dom Telford is leading scorer in league 2. Out of contract in the summer though I expect he'll be offered another year.

Do we need a 10? Both DJ and Browne can play there. We have Browne and McCann for 8 and Ledson too
I agree with the other suggested replacements although it is possible that Storey may have improved enough to play RCB
It would be good if Maguire moved on and then we could recruit 2 strikers. Harrop to be moved on too hopefully

We clearly need to replace the magic that is Izzy Brown! Preferably with someone with his muscles attached.

Moving on Harrop is easier said than done. No L1 one team will takeover his wages. I'm not sure there'll be a queue for a loan deal either.

I do wonder what we'll do with Bayliss. He's moving into his final year of a four year contract in which he's started two league games for us.

Will we protect the "asset" of our big signing and give him a new extension or just cut our losses?

Agree about Ross Sykes, destined for bigger things.

The names I have are pretty similar to yours to be honest.

GK - Gavin Bazunu (loan)
RCB - Ross Sykes
RWB - Kane Kesler (loan) / John Emmanuel
LWB - Connor Grant / Ryan Giles (loan)
10 - Pauntche Camara
ST - Cameron Archer (loan) / Carlton Morris

Archer is no doubt very unrealistic but I would want the club to at least beg for him to come back. Again Giles will probably either with Wolves for backup or back on loan higher up the food chain but it's worth a punt.

I did also think that Ben Davies might be achievable again given his underwhelming spells at Liverpool and Sheffield United. But Hughes has been immense at LCB and seems senseless pushing him LWB to accommodate Davies. That said he was equally superb the other night against Forest and didn't give Djed Spence a sniff down that side.

Some very appealing names mentioned here
Archer has been a revelation since he has arrived and I feel his impact will see him receive game time back at Villa next season
I've been watching a bit of Plymouth since our gaffer arrived to see who suits our club. Camara is a must because of his boundless energy but an 8 not a 10
Grant is technically very good and although he starts in a LWB position and produces consistent crosses he also gets in very dangerous shooting positions on the edge of the box unlike other wingbacks and is lethal from there. He looks like he could play as a 10 also. I can't see us getting Ross Sykes as I think he will go for big money which we may not have.
A decent shopping list though!
