The time has once again come to start the rumour mill for the summer’s transfer activity! The thread with contract and transfer information is linked below.

To get things going, I would like to see the following activity from the club this summer;

Released:
Patrick Bauer
Ched Evans
Greg Cunningham
Ben Woodburn

New Contracts offered:
Jordan Storey (although I’d want a replacement ideally)
Freddie Woodman
Emil Riis
Will Keane
Kian Best
Alan Browne
Lewis Leigh (if Ledson and Woodburn go)

Attempts to buy:
Liam Millar

Attempts to sell:
Ryan Ledson
Finlay Cross-Adair (free to any taker)
Jordan Storey (if replaced - see below)

Positions to buy for:
Right Wing Back
2x Central defenders (unless Kian Best is being pushed more there)
Left Wing Back (Millar?)

The Summer 2024 transfer window activity post can be found here.

Out

Woodburn
Evans
Cunningham
Bauer
Best (loan)- this isn't to say he's not good enough to be a squad option for us, but I think for his development he'd be better off playing 40 odd games in the division below rather than warming our bench.

In

LCB- a player to challenge Hughes who, although good when he plays, can't be relied upon to play every week.
RCB- competition for Storey
Attacking LWB- would love this to be Millar but I don't think he'll come back so someone similar.
Attacking RWB- a right sided Millar to rotate with Potts depending on how attacking we want to set up.

This should be doable with it basically being one out one in, and if we only get 4 players in we should be able to afford to get quality that'd add to the starting lineup.

We could also do a couple of extra deals that might be nice if not essential:

Ledson out, replaced with another, younger CM- Ledson is fine as fourth choice starting 5-10 games a season, but if we're going to have a player who features so rarely they may as well be a younger player we can improve and sell on, rather than a 26 year old that's probably reached their limit in terms of development.
Stewart out on loan, Will Keane style striker who can hold the ball up and bring others into play in- similar to Best, Stewart is fine as backup but for his development it might be best he goes out and plays regularly, especially given his lack of men's football in his career so far.

This would leave us with a squad of:

Woodman, Cornell

New LWB/Millar, Brady, New LCB, Hughes, Lindsay, Whatmough, New RCB, Storey, New RWB, Potts

Whiteman, McCann, Browne, Ledson/New CM, Frokjaer, Holmes

Riis, Keane, Osmajic, Stewart/New Striker

I think that'd be a good enough squad to have us challenging for the plays offs presuming the new additions are of decent quality. It does rely on us getting Riis and Browne to sign new contracts, if that doesn't happen a bigger rebuilding job will need doing and they'll definitely be hard to replace.

Despite this I think it's important we let Riis go this summer if he doesn't sign a new contract. Lots of teams have got out of this division by selling their better players and reinvesting the money, I don't think any have got promoted on the back of ignoring contract extensions until the Autumn before they're due to run out, then selling players for a pittance in January or releasing them at the end of their contract.

You have forgotten the most important signing that being a new manager.

terrible result today, once again Lowe gets it so wrong and against a bottom 3 side, thrown away any glimmer of hope of the play offs, Brings Woodburn on when we need something from the game. Rowett once again out thinks our manager

Jay Stansfield on a season long loan please. Or even a Cannon style fee.

He's barely in the game and then finishes a one on one ice cold after running from his own half, very impressed with that. 11 in the championship for him now and he'd be a younger presence upfront. Get Stewart out on loan to a league 1 or top end league 2 team.

If Browne re-signs then there's enough options in CM if.....

the club actually bothers to sign a RWB. Just seems because Ramsey didn't work out they just gave up on that position again.

It's costing points in the run in given capable midfielders like Browne and Holmes are having to be moved there so they're uncomfortable, the midfield is weaker as a result and you're losing points against relegation strugglers.

In any post season debrief the club needs to actually realise that's one of the big reasons it keeps on falling short every year and do something about it.

If that means selling Riis so be it as 40 games next season out of a proper RWB and Millar signed permanently will make the team all round much stronger.

Todays not on Lowe.

Half the first team were missing

Spot on. Tough ask when you're giving an 18 year old a debut in the middle of the park. Take 3 key players out of any team and they will struggle.
Even those who played looked like they were on their last legs.

Don't agree with this, its a football match 11v11. Lowe is at fault he selects the team, sets them up and makes the substitutions. He got it all wrong today but this is not the first time. he is not good enough and needs to be moved on asap and take Woodburn and Ledson with him.

To be fair, this is the case regardless of who our manager is.

Gary Rowett has faced us 14 times - ZERO defeats!

I'd be interested to know what you would have done differently today?
We were missing Browne, Whiteman and (to a far lesser extent) Ledson in midfield, which for me is where the game was lost.
McCann is a terrific ratter but lacks the quality to dictate the game and needs to play alongside a footballer. We had a kid making his debut today alongside him, who while he shows promise, is a million miles away from being ready for top half championship football.

I would have dropped Mads to midfield in place of mawene and put on another striker or Millar up front on the left with Keane just behind the 2 forwards. Also we are light on the bench cos we keep giving out contracts to league 1 players…Woodburn is one them.

I think there would have been uproar if we'd moved two of our best players out of their best position.
Completely agree with Woodburn...an experiment which should have been ended after one season.
Although I thought Brady (self created chance aside) was good today, and has been for the last few weeks.
I'm no Lowe fan...far from it...but to criticise him today on a day when the club releases a self-mocking video for being fucking tinpot (and probably loses their last glimmer of hope for the play offs on the same day) is a little unfair.

we had 2 great chances in the first half to kill them off and we didn't take them. Missing those is not Lowes fault but keep picking Woodburn is. His substitutions were all wrong and he doesn't put some blame on Freddy who made it easy for their lad to finish. he is on loan from Fulham he is quality you don't give him those chances. I don't know what woodman was thinking in staying put with a lad clean through and nobody anywhere near him so poor decision making.

Lowe is not good enough its that simple and he needs moving on , don't waste anymore money on him get rid

ROWETT played PNE 14 times never lost, says a lot.

And don't forget Birmingham had just lost 4 on the spin and had no confidence languishing 3rd from bottom and we put in a performance like that. Time to go Lowe and be quick about it plus take your mates with you they are not good enough either.

Really???. Digging out Woodman for their goal just shows that imho you're looking for a scapegoat when in reality it was just a slip and a shit goal to concede, the kind of incident which happens probably every 2 or 3 seasons or so. Just shite that it's happened now. Woodman was at no fault at all.

Yep. Woodman's conceded a few soft goals this season but his form recently has been more like 22/23. Stansfield had possession 40 yards out so in reality Woodman would've risked a red card if he'd rushed out at that point. Plenty of strikers miss the chance when they have that long to think about it. It was a very good finish.

And who would you appoint instead?

This squad isn’t play off worthy let’s get that right. The six teams in the play offs have a much stronger squad by a country mile. Yet we are still only five points outside with a game in hand.

Could another manager have us up there in sixth place. Well I can’t say for certain but very unlikely.

The amount of clubs who have sacked their manager is ridiculous this season. Every bottom half team have sacked their manager. Only Bristol on the top half have. Think that paints it’s own picture.

Lowe got a lot of things wrong in our winless run. However he deserves credit for getting us back on track. We need more strength in depth it’s as simple as that really.

You are by far and away the biggest moronic idiot on this MB by some distance.

Bravo!!
