Summer 2024 : Transfer Window Rumours and Discussion

When Burnley got promoted under Dyche, they had a plan. Beat the teams in the bottom half (they did the double on every team from 13th down and that’s 72 points) and keep it tight against the rest. We only needed to have beaten Sheffield Wednesday & QPR at home and Birmingham & Rotherham away, and those extra 11 points would have seen us safely in the top 6. Those 4 games were not only winnable, they should have been won convincingly, and that is why we are where we are unfortunately.
Every team could be saying that though. Norwich lost to Rothertham, Millwall and Blackburn this season.

I think we'll be in for Ben Doak from Liverpool.

We asked about him on Deadline Day last summer, but Klopp wanted to keep him around as he was going to play him in the cup competitions (which he did).

He had a bad Meniscus tear and is expected to be back before the end of the month.

I imagine with a new manager coming in, they'll want him to gain experience elsewhere. Hopefully his injury hasn't damaged his pace too much as he was lightning.

If we couldn't bring in anyone to replace the Liverpool loanee we chose (rightly) to let go, I very much doubt we have much in the way of transfer budget this Summer without selling someone.

Hope I'm wrong, but I think Browne has long since said he intends to leave and that Riis will be sold to balance the books. Genuinely believe we pushed the boat out as much as possible to sign Osmajic, Frokjaer and project Stewart (plus the two loan fees) and we may have dipped in to next year's budget on the "promise" of the new Premier League deal coming in...

To be in with a chance, surely we have to have a formation that actually plays wingers? And as such, sign full backs to play behind them?

It's a fair point. All I know/was told was that we were asking if he was available for loan last summer. No idea on the ins and outs of the offer etc.

I'd imagine he would have had to play a certain percentage of the games we had. But you are right, we'd have to play with wingers for him to work.

Millar, Riis, Doak sounds nice.

This is something that always puzzles me about Ryan Lowe and his love of "converting" players and a back 3... Why do we not sign fullbacks who are good on the ball who can then play left or right centre half, as Andrew Hughes has done?

Genuine ball-playing centre halves cost a fortune and, as much as I rate Storey, trying to coach a true defender to go forward simply does not work.

According to one of our friends down the road we are after Jordan Gabriel in the summer.

He was linked with Lincoln this weekend by our good friend ReluctantNicko.

Ironically, I think we should be looking at Lincoln for a RWB in Lasse Sorensen. 24 years old, very attack-minded and OoC at the end of the season. Four goals and eight assists this season in League One.

Who's said that?

The idea that we are so far ahead of any other team in this league that we should be expecting to walk over them cannot apply to a club of our modest quality.

We can't -expect- to be walking over these teams when we are of comparible quality to everyone but Rotherham.

A parachute team will have those expectations, understandably. It's blind faith or blinkers that would expect the same from us.

If we’re good enough to beat Leeds and Ipswich, surely we should be able to take care of the 4 clubs I mentioned.

I’m not bothered about Norwich, we can only affect our own results, and those 4 games I mentioned, we should have won.
Absolutely. But football doesn’t work like that at times. If the four teams at the bottom we should have beat then the games against the top sides we should have all lost.

There is no point at the end of the season saying we should have won this game and won that game. What will cost us undoubtly is a lack of quality and strength in depth. When injuries have hit we have struggled and that’s unfortunately is the sad reality.

Ive always felt you need a bit of luck for a team
like us to get promoted where everything aligns at once. Hopefully one day. We are building a squad rather than relying on loans and hopefully we build on the success of our transfer window last summer.

On any given day any team can beat any other. Thats why cup giant-killings happen.

The difference is that the better the team the more likely they are A/ to have a good day and B/ manage to eek out a result when they don't.

We are an alright team with alright players. So we are doing alright.

I assumed @llanroc was referring to Dyche's 2013/14 promotion team, which didn't have the benefit of parachute payments.

Sorenson should be our number one target this summer.

We had multiple left sided players and no right sided ones. Millar scored his last 2 goals from the right. It's not rocket science.
Millers best move is cutting in from the left & shooting with his right foot. & that's not rocket science either.
