The Park Hotel. Miller Park.

Still pretty shit though..... Hardly fits in with the landscape........
Blame it on the Russians and Constructivism, a bunch of artists and architects that based designs using modern materials, inspired brutalism as well some say. That resulted in the massive housing estates in places like Moscow and Leningrad, inspired by constructivism.....

Some of the Art was very good though.... Lizzitsky, Tatlin and Malevich...

Can only assume that map on yours @paddysr is from a bit later that that 1849 one I put up?

Preston Map of 1895

The map above from 1895 shows the Park Hotel in place, but both this one and yours also show Miller and Avenham Parks actually being designated as parks. They only become parks in 1867, hence why they're not labelled as such in the one I showed from 1849 🤷‍♂️
See the Southport Line ‘west lancs line’ went to a different station near the River. I think that closed and the line was diverted to Butler Street Station, which was adjacent but distinct to Preston Station. They were side by side, but Butler street was on the winkley square side - where the car park is now. - I have a L+Y railway clock from there

The modern plans are totally out of proportion to the old hotel. Should be rejected on all counts - not least because of the landscape views of the old hotel from surrounding area. The developer not even building in sympathetic brick. Because If he did the cost would skyrocket. Definitely object this this local residents

I believe it’s all passed now and ready to go….

I think it’s great that the building will be saved.

I look forwards to it starting, I’d love to see it finished in my lifetime…. been waiting long enough.

Not being a dick...but when the council built the extra offices at the side they were demolished cos they were out of keeping with the main hotel...uh..hello...that new picture looks identical to what was demolished....ffs

Well with modern day architecture and related cost issues I’m not sure what you could expect them to build?
As I understand it the new development is helping to pay for the high cost of redevelopment of the old Park Hotel building, without it the building would just deteriorate and then the usual fire would happen and demolition.
I’m not unhappy with the new development.

I find all the new high rise blocks in Manchester in various shades of grey extremely ugly, and that is apparently where the money is.

Who do we blame for Benidorm ? To be fair though the view from the cross is quite impressive

Preston has lost so much of it's historic architecture that I suppose this is one way of saving this particular example. Not ideal but this is the world we live in today, unfortunately.

The original hotel building is very attractive. We will have to frame it when viewing to block out the flats.

We can't blame Lancashire County Council this time, unlike for the "ring road" that runs right through the centre of the City.

LCC were still the owners when the application was made - and may still be.
