The pitch

It is starting to look like while the owners are willing to carry on putting in 'the budget' to keep us in the Championship, anything above and beyond that is seen as a pointless expense to them as its money spent that won't really alter the status quo of Championship survival or alter the value of the club in real terms.

Its clear they just aim to keep us as we are until someone comes along willing to pay their asking price. Until that happens, we will tread water and risk season after season a relegation to league 1.

I agree with your post, but surely you don't mean this is a new concept?

So, after PR's interview it seems the new pitch and heating has been scrapped, but why?

One off capital spends in infrastructure is essential.

Ridsdale said theres growing evidence of these type of pitches causing ACL injuries.

Ive yet to see that evidence, not saying it isnt true though.

Because it comes out of the playing budget, because the owners won't make one-off infrastructure investments, because they are the worst owners in the Championship, and we need the playing budget to sign players, because we also have one of the worst squads in the Championship.

There really should be two budgets, one for the playing squad and one for capex items such as stadium repairs, the pitch and, more importantly, an academy.

Anything else is a false economy. The theory that you have to speculate to accumulate is a no no at the home of football.
Yep - the way the Isle of Man runs it is ludicrous, and means long-term projects have no chance of success.

Very sensible post. Its worrying the lack of business like thinking involved with the spending. Capital post should be set up for one off infrastructure spending or spending with an aim to grow revenue income (think pitch, finishing the pavillion etc). And a revenue pot for players etc etc.

But here is the flip side of financially prudent Pete and Craig. In his interview last night he said a squad of 22-24 will do us ( we know that’s 22 really). Most of our injuries are non impact muscle and soft tissues tears and most occurred around the time our pitch disintegrated. The wet spell Nov to Feb saw players slipping left right and centre and is when most of the injuries happened..

Get your money on the too many injuries excuses around the Jan Feb time when the small squad and under invested surface meet in a perfect storm..

Yeah. Think research has shown that there may be a higher chance of non-contact knee injuries (mainly due to the increased surface traction), but don't believe there's anything conclusive.

The fact that most top teams have it would suggest the benefits outweigh the risks.
