Time for action - An open letter to Preston North End FC (Meeting & responses added).

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the done thing (or even allowed) but we, yesterday, published our in-depth look at PNE finances.

It's available to read here if of interest, and critique/thoughts always welcome:

Thanks,

GS

A good read that, but I'm confused about the dates - why are Blackpool included in 2023/24 Championship tables?

Thank you!

Unfortunately due to the fact very few Champ clubs have yet released 2023/24 financials, the most recent figs we have for Championship clubs are mostly in 2022/23. Once the clubs promoted into the league for the start of last season release theirs, Blackpool, Wigan and Reading will all drop off the tables.

OK - got it, so it's a mix of 2 years data. The tables are living and will be updated when a club releases latest results. All those (2023) in brackets make sense now!

Thankyou for posting this.

A very good unbiased summary.

I'd recommend every fan reads this whatever side of the fence you sit. It highlights the both the pressures the ownership are under and where they have fallen short in recent years.

Excellent analysis, thanks for posting! Please feel free to post more in future.

Some damning analysis of our player sales and commercial income generating activities in there . I can't see how Ridsdale can escape massive criticism from the owners there . Unless of course they don't actually care as long as they don't have to put any extra in ?
Equally , fair acknowledgement of the money that is put in annually . Just a shame it isn't spent better .

Thanks - that's very kind. We'll have detailed analysis for an Champ clubs as their accounts come out, which will be relevant to PNE. We've also looked at the new EFL TV deal in the past and will likely do a follow-up on that in the near future.

After reading our financial figures for 2023/2024 some of the more pragmatic Blackpool fans on their forum are saying that Hemmings will be withdrawing his funding at the end of this season.. ( I don’t know what they are basing that on )

They say once that happens we will be F**ked and probably end up in administration …..

Rather than laughing at us and taunting us , some of them are saying how sad it would be….

They've got 5 threads about their own precarious club ownership too, so I suspect there's some projection going on there.

I must admit , I thought that I had missed something but as you say, Lasher Facts 😂

If that happened we probably would end up in administration before long as we wouldn't be able to pay players and other creditors within a few months. ST takings would keep things going through the autumn but, depending how the TV money is paid, maybe not a lot longer.

Cancelling contracts (probably at a cost in most cases) and / or a fire-sale would keep the wolf from the door to a degree but if the Hemmings plug was pulled then pivoting to a situation where we live within financial means would be very difficult / impossible before the tap runs dry.

IF that were to happen then the fact that there are a lot of contracts up next summer would be a benefit financially as we could replace them with kids / desperate free-transfers but, without world class talent spotting (ahem....) we'd end up being relegation certainties next season.

In short, we'd do well to last the season as a going concern (in my opinion) and even if we did the reduced income in League 1 would make the following season just as challenging.

The Hemmings pulling the plug would hurt the club massively. I don't see that happening though - if they want out then they will set progressively tighter budgets until the championship level wages are off the books then leave it be (in League 1 probably).

By far the most disappointing revenue stream for The Lilywhites is in commercial
Can you guys forward this to our owners? They won't listen to us but we keep telling them the same thing.

In what may be a surprise to some fans, that £4 million represented one of the highest net transfer spends in the Championship as a proportion of income.
That's a lot of money to spend just to end up with the same points haul as the year before
