UK Politics

'Not only is the government not prepared for a next pandemic, "

Why bother, when there would be money to be made ?

Good point. No point in buying PPE in prep when theres no crisis and therefore its cheap. Best to wait for the crisis and buy at peak world demand and charge a stonking markup a la Mone

Hoyle played an utter shocker today and quite frankly should be considering his position.

Oh, and Starmer, just fuck off you piece of shit.

The programme is incredibly upsetting. I know it’s classed as fictional but would anyone seriously question what’s been shown? The government choices and the way they impacted the patients is staggering.

Joanne Froggatt has been simply outstanding.
Yep it is, watching now. What healthcare professionals went through should never be forgotten.

If he can wield this level of authoritarianism when in opposition its actually frightening what he will do if we allow him into power.

After his shit show, today, its looking like i might at least get a meaningful vote at the next election.
The worst case for me would be that the justified mistrust of politicians from large parts of the electorate paves the way for a bunch of nutters like the Reform Party to gain a foothold.

But many would say it was all a hoax and the nhs has been complicit in delivering untested vaccines on the people. Totally forgetting what happened in those first 12 months.

Time is the enemy of the truth and what actually happened. Its easy to re-rehearse, retrench and gain traction for claims that at the time were dismantled as either untrue or unreasonably based. Everyone's memories fade unless I guess you were on the frontline. I wasn't thankfully but my thinking is that my GP is more likely to provide me with the best advice rather than a blog or a letters page.

The NHS had PPE but it was out of date, how masks gowns aprons etc can go out of date baffles me
When all the dodgy business went on with the contracts for PPE awarded to pub landlords and Michael Gove's, sisters, cousins local newsagents mate. One firm from the midlands who were supplying PPE to the USA and had been doing so for years offered to supply some of the NHS needs at normal prices, the prices they were exporting PPE to the states for, which was a lot cheaper than the Chinese shit imported by the Tory chosen.

I saw one of the owners of the firm in the midlands on TV and he said they had offered to up production and use existing stock to help in supplying the NHS, the firm never got a reply from the government and were not even considered. The director of the firm said they wouldn't have been able to supply all the NHS needs immediately but would be able to up production and supply a great deal of immediate needs. There should have been legal investigations, the Tories broke every rule under the sun, not even backing British industry, they paid extortionate prices, with mark-ups going to their friends, like Hancock's pub landlord.

It is a sorry situation when corruption and dishonesty is the name of the game in the UK, when the government is complicit in stealing taxpayer's money to line their own pockets with no questions asked, when the MPs and Tory donors can ignore legalities, with questions swept under the carpet, we no longer live in a fair and just society, we are no better than a banana republic, that filters away taxpayers money into hidden accounts in tax-havens in British Overseas Territories, made especially for criminals to hide their money.

That's one the first things which came into my mind when watching it. People do like their little hobby horses dont they.
The ones who said and continue to say 'let it rip" are even more maddening.

The amount of bullshit Johnson came out with as well, 'were British, we'll bash that virus'.
Jenny Harries' comments about ppe where did she get her information from?
How utterly wet and useless Hancock was/is.
Funny, I half expected to feel differently visiting it all again, it actually made me more angry.

I wouldn't call it authoritarian. It's playing politics sure but that's the wrong word. I suppose I have little sympathy as Hoyle is about a bad a speaker as one could imagine and hopefully will go. The image of Westminster is at much his fault as anyone's as he lacks authority and just lets it become a circus.

I can't stand the SNP but they have every right to be angry, yesterday was their opposition debate day of which they only get 3 and I think Labour get 17. The speaker and Labour have colluded to basically ruin the SNP's motion in order to stop the embarrassment for Starmer of a potential large rebellion on his side. Hoyle needs to go and if proven Starmer has applied pressure to him I would argue Starmer's position is also untenable.

Really? plain and simply the Starmer leaned on him just as hes leaned on his own MPs who dont toe his centre right line.

Hoyle is my MP and Ive been more than happy with him as my constituency MP, hes done a lot of good for chorley.

starmer has destroyed a decent guys career, Hoyle now has to go, just as hes destroyed many decent Labour MPs careers.

I was a member of Chorley CLP for so many years that I learnt how they worked, if starmer approached them they will not campaign, as last time, for Hoyles re-election to parliament.

Theres a cigarette paper's width of distance between the language of the various motions. Theyre all guilty of politicking on an issue over which they have little or no influence. Sad that they are so self important and pompous when the rest of the country is wrestling with the consequences of the domestic turmoil that they actually are responsible for and could influence..
