VAR

Should the Championship bring in VAR?

My point is there should be a short fixed time limit for any checks.

That’s not really the issue for me, it’s more the number of incidents referred.

If it was just used for clear and obvious mistakes there’d often be no referrals at all in a game. TBH though I’m not sure how this could work in practice.

One option is a similar system to cricket, for example each captain is allowed to ask for 2 VAR reviews per game.

Not sure I would trust most footballers judgement on a captains review, as you see in cricket a captain is generally in and around the wicket for a better view if your captain is a keeper or defender and it is at the other side of the pitch he will probably have no idea

This is my biggest gripe with VAR, the referee should make a decision and they watch a couple of angles and if they can’t anything you go with the referees decision. Not this looking at the same angle 10 times

Just like cricket, the captain would ask a bowler, for example, if he thought a bowl got a snick. It’s never solely down to the captain.

I was thinking the same, maybe it should be the manager? I haven’t thought it through tbh but I think the answer is in there somewhere.

As I mentioned earlier the NRL uses the captins challenge system to check on disputes, ice hockey uses coaches challenge (normally done via someone watching on an iPad(or similar brands are available)) You start with 2 challenges if you use a challenge to waste time, ie a clear handball has occurred for your team,,,, you claim it didn't. You lose the challenge and only have one remaining.
You contest a penalty descion and are correct you keep the challenge so still have,2.
Works brilliantly in other sports so why not trial it?
