Whiteman

A good team in League 1 might take a punt on him, someone like Wycombe or Wrexham, he’s definitely not championship quality.

He'd have to halve his wages and would still go there as a top wage earner - not going to happen.
A loan move where we pay the majority of his wages is the only way he'd be going. And that won't happen either.
Once we sign a player permanently, they are here until the end of their contract, which is one of the big problems.

This is ridiculous. Yes he's had a few games where he's been struggling but he's actually had some good performances as well, but hey, that doesn't seem to fit the agenda. Agree he doesn't deserve to be starting atm (Ali and Stef look like a well balanced partnership), but Jeez having someone of his quality on the bench is excellent.
People saying get rid???. Good luck finding a replacement with our budget/wage structure.
Ps. He isn't and was never captain material. But that's not his fault or does not make him a poor player

There's many Championship clubs..above us in the table...who i expect would love to have him

I think he's been below the level we require for a long time now. Think back to our great start last season. We'd won 6 and drawn 2 of our first 8 games. Then the wheels fell off. Just so happened that the change in form occured when Whiteman returned to the team. Coincidence?

I'm not sure he's entirely to blame. His role in the team seems to be different from the box to box role he held at Doncaster. He'll probably do well in a very good team were he can coast through games, but in a team like ours were we need our players to be at 110% every game, I don't think he has that in his locker.

As would say there was no other championship team in for him when negotiating his contract as he would have more then likely earned more money from moving but signed a new contract

Personally i think he only signed the new contract when he realised he didn't have the same speed and mobility after his bad injury and we where actually the fall back position for his financial 'security'.
He took a long time to sign that and i don't think it was his preferred choice, until he realised he wasn't the Player that he previously was.
It then became his best option.

I actually think we could afford to replace Whiteman without it being too much of an issue considering what he's offering. Every midfielder we've had over the past 10 years who I consider to be a more useful player for us has been brought in for cheaper than Whiteman cost us. Whiteman is possibly our second most expensive player ever (Ridsdale seems to think so at least). Pearson, DJ, Gally, Browne, McCann, and Frokjaer were all brought in for less money. Thordarson has been a more useful player in recent games too and he was also cheaper.

Wage wise, Whiteman must be up there as well. I've no idea how much he's on but the suggestion is that he was on a similar amount to Browne when Browne was on his highest wage.

See this is why I think we should sell him. We could probably convince another Championship side to take a punt and he'd be worth a decent amount compared to most of the squad. We could then use that money to reinvest in one or two players who would be offering us more in matches.

Competition for places is what we need, right?

At his best, Whiteman is worth his place in the team and hopefully the recognition that he's not untouchable because he's captain will have him knuckling down and getting to that standard.

So were Grimshaw, Pringle, Ledson, Harrop & Bayliss.

He's a decent player, who we will need to play during the season when our starting pair either get injured or need rotating.

We actually have good depth in midfield, why on earth would we damage that position just because fans unfairly blame him for our underperformance on the pitch
