January 2024 : Transfer Window Rumours and Discussion

At this point with the way this place has become incredibly negative and self defeating I can't be arsed debating and then the vitriol that comes with it.

Not everything is rosey at North End and there's a lot that needs to be improved upon but Jesus Christ it isn't as bad as people are making out.

I think there's a lot of short memories around the place.
So there is lots that needs improving on but it's not that bad? Bit of a contradiction no?

And short term memories please explain?

Lastly for the vitriol. Different opinions are not vitriol and if memory serves you give as good as you get in the vitriol stakes so you can hardly claim the moral high ground

The Browne article says working on a deal to help them fight relegation so if true must be trying to sign him January.

”If you think it’s bad now, just remember how bad it used to be ? “ ……… Total apathy ! …… The deepdale faithful deserve better.

🤔🤔🤔

I meant what I said - Woodburn isn't talentless but he simply isn't enough of either a midfielder or a striker to be effective at this level. Maybe some other team at our current level could make something of him but at a level lower he might well look a class act. But as I said there is no case for giving him an sort of extension - indeed an effort should have been made to move him on in this window.

Realistically can I see him moving there? Probably not. Because money wise I don’t think they will be that much more, if any more than what we’re offering him. Plus they’re rock bottom of the league and I don’t think he’d jump over to play in the Italian second division. It’s bad that it’s even at this point, he should’ve been re-signed and probably wanted to be re-signed a long time ago.
It’s a pretty nice place to live. Beats turning up a Euxton everyday listening to Lowe and watching the fat one stuff his face!

I haven’t hit the refresh button yet, and usually by this time on the last day of the transfer window I’d be in 3 figures of refreshes.

Let‘s just sit back and watch other clubs strengthen whilst we safely know that we’re still within the FFP.

I would like the club to make some kind of statement, or for George to investigate it and then post with what he has found out etc.

Not a contradiction no, there's always room for improvement and there's a lot that needs improving but there's also been a lot of good in recent times. You can say there needs to be improvements whilst also saying things are not as bad.

Look at the summer transfer activity and then early season results, we had a very good summer by our standards that mean we can't purchase in January without players leaving, it's quickly forgotten the business we did in the Summer. Plus with the shortcomings of the manager coming to the forefront do fans really want Lowe to be backed this January?

With players like Evans, Woodburn, Cunningham and Bauer on the books to give us our depth and then starters such as Brady, Storey, Hughes, Whatmough, Riis, Osmijic, Frokjaer, Woodman all coming with different challenges (form, injuries, return from injuries, new league/level etc) is this season really the one where we're going to break into the play-offs? Not for me, there's too much deadwood and shite that needs shifting between now and summer that can't be done overnight.

Then you have the issue with youth and form where Lowe is clearly relying on experience to try and save his job.

We can sit here and type until our hands fall off about FFP, Bauer's contract, Evan's contract etc but that's not going to get them paid up or not renewed until the summer, it's going over old ground and spilt milk which achieves the square root of fuck all, I also think its folly to compare contract situations of one player to another as people have done.

I didn't say differing opinions were and I'm not claiming any moral high ground, but your last point backs up my point. I'm trying to talk about North End and you have to drag it to a personal battle.

This would be the final nail in the coffin in my opinion, completely unacceptable if this happens.
None of it adds up, I'd have put my last dollar on Whiteman being the one who went out of him and Browne , so would everyone else i would imagine ?

Yet he we are with Whiteman signed up and Browne going , it has been muted that Browne and Lowe fell out - is it possible he's been told he is no longer Captain so is now refusing to sign and Whiteman has took it as a sweetener for a new deal?

It might seem bizarre , but nothing would surprise me at the minute?

There's a couple of tweaks needed, but they are tweaks in very prominent positions.

Numbers wise we're probably covered left hand side and central positions you'd say. Though obvious quality issues defensively and on the left.

Right hand side we've Potts, and then Holmes and Miller playing in unflavoured positions. Also no direct cover for Storey (who you'd argue is cover for the RCB of a 3 in a promotion chasing team).

It's not gonna happen but a RWB RW and a RCB would be the main shopping list.

LWB/LB as well

Miller being our best player, even as a loan it really is silly how we don't play to his obvious strengths. Its also utter madness how Lowe as the second longest serving manager in the division who sticks pretty rigidly to his formation still hasn't signed wingbacks. 2 young loans with predictable 50:50 hit rate and Robbie Brady ain't it
