Hughes contract extension (Confirmed).

He's been brilliant this season in his role as left centre half. He has his limitations in attack, and if he was playing as an all out Left Back I'd probably moan, but he has been solid at defending. Keep it up Hughes cha

Interesting if Barky and Bauer are not signed up come the end of January.
 
Can’t argue with this. Been consistent all year long. 2 year deal works for both parties.
 
Well deserved and seems a reasonable length of extension. Reckon he probably has 2 more seasons of serviceable play left at this level before age starts to impact.

With potentially Bauer, Sepp and Iversen all gone next season it is vital we keep some continuity in what has been a decent defensive outfit when all are playing.
 
Hughes is too slow to be a wing-back, not agile enough to be a fullback and lacks the presence to be in the centre of a back four but he has the right mix of attributes to be very effective on the left of a back three - which is what we are now seeing. We now need to offload Cunningham if possible, recognise that Earl is a defender not a midfielder and start to develop him as Hughes' longer term successor. Then we can hopefully bring in the fast, attacking left-sided wing-back we need.
 
Mobile, decent on the ball, and fantastic in the air. Two extra years on (what is most likely) an improved contract is most definitely deserved.
 
Established Championship CB now and a no brainer for the club to extend his contract. Just need Bauer now…..not too bothered about Barkhuizen to be honest.
