Bolton Wanderers

PNE should allow anyone with a BWFC season ticket entry to today's game
Chorley have offered reduced price admission for BWFC fans and any Brentford fans that may already have travelled up.

We really are not very proactive when it comes to this type of stuff.

Think the lasher's result stood at 0-0 because the first 45 minutes had been played. Huddersfield wanted to be given the 3 points because it would have meant finishing above Leeds.

Scotland were awarded a 0-3 win back in the 90s when the opposition didn't turn up but they were actually out on the pitch. But that was a decision made by UEFA or FIFA.

Previously when a team hasn't completed their league fixtures their entire results have been voided. This was talked about a few weeks ago and it would mean some teams around the top six "losing" 6 points but teams like Derby gaining as they drew and lost to Bolton this year. The fairest way for everyone is the final two games for Bolton are played, possibly midweek and next Sunday. Bolton start next season on -15 points.

It might be the fairest way but if the players et al refuse to play then how can they complete the games ?

Currently BWFC have released most of their U23's and not given deals to most of the 'older U18's - i.e. Max Broughton who was on trial with us this week.
The medical staff and coaching staff are 'on strike' as well as the players for non payment too....

By tuesday all the contracted staff are due their April wages, without anyone in place to pay them, and so even the stewards and security folk could be on strike by Weds.... and this is not includign all the suppliers that havent been paid - food; diesel; transport; water; services etc etc.

The EFL have to take some ownership theyve known the problems for months and sat back.... rumour being the head of the EFL is best matea with the outgoing Bolton owner !

Chorley have announced a 'cheap deal' for any Bolton or Brentford fan with a ST or match ticket at their home game today !
Chorley v Bradford , last game of the season... it could be interesting, but now it’s out of Chorleys own hands....

If Stockport win then they are champions and go up automatically whilst Chorley go into the play offs !

To be fair you would get a load of North End fans moaning their loyalty has been trampled all over. The club would be damned either way on this issue.

Stockport also playing bottom of the league who've only won once at home all season so they're 99% guaranteed the 3 points.

Be a hard task for Chorley to pick themselves up for the Play-offs and Brackley (currently 3rd) seem like the form team.

To be fair, I don't know the full ins and outs of it but I think the EFL will do everything they can to at least get the fixtures completed. They'll see it that way that will avoid other clubs threatening legal action if their position in the final league table is affected due to Bolton not completing their fixtures or their results being voided. However it could lead to a couple of farcical games where Bolton are forced to play what remains of their "youth" set-up behind closed doors.

I think 99% of people wouldn't begrudge a few Brentford fans being allowed into the game, especially if they've already travelled up on the train or stayed overnight somewhere. Bolton fans being given a freebie or a discount is another issue as the game might still be played sometime in the next week.

Either way, I'd be surprised if more than a handful took up the offer at any club.

Hi - the EFL have this morning ordered BWFC to play the last two games using 'any contracted players' including the youth team who have 'scholarship contracts'. The EFL say they couldnt force Bolton to do that today because the U18's (incl a number of U16's) had played on thursday and 'player welfare' take precedence. However the EFL say BWFC can now prepare for this week and not play any 'academy games' using 'contracted youngsters.

Thats all well and good for the EFL to make that statement - and its a logical mone- but the final say will rest with Bolton Council H & S body who might again decide it cant offer a safety certificate for the Brentford game IF the stewards and turnstyle and medical support refuse to turn up until they are paid.

As the players said, 5 of the 1st team support staff havent been paid either - that will be the manager; asst; coach; medic; physio - and if they refuse to turn up how can it be played ???? IF you were the under 18's physio for instance and the 1st team physio refused to work, until he was paid, would you offer to cover his role for the game or stay away in support ????

the route question is - how did the EFL allow the current owner (or the new owner) to run a football club like this ?????

arent we lucky to have Trevor !!!!

Fair enough I am just trying to see it from all angles.

Personally, I think the games will be played but under absolutely farcical circumstances. The home game at Brentford will probably be have to be played behind closed doors and the majority of "senior" staff will be on strike. However, there'll be someone employed by the club who'll want the game to be played and will do whatever they can to ensure it is.

If we were in a similar situation we'd probably end up with Surf as the manager for the game (he's got the relevant coaching badges) and it's always been his dream. Plus no doubt a few of the youth team would probably fancy the game. And Mel Tottoh can probably knock off work early again.

Do you know what I hope the youth team players tell them to sod off.

Its high time the players union stated to take a stand on this. If the game is reorganised get a picket line outside the ground. Any with morals will refuse to cross it.

Still doesn't exonerate the EFL from their responsibilities though does it?

It doesn't. But Bolton's financial issues started when they were a Premier League club. If they'd never have made it to the Premier League then they might have gone down the same route as us and tried to spend within their means.

The EFL didn't cause the issues at Bolton, nevertheless they are too soft when it comes to dealing with clubs who are in turmoil. As soon as clubs started automatically getting points deductions for going into administration clubs stopped going down that route. Perhaps the EFL should introduce a "transfer window" for new owners and any club who is even late playing players wages during a season is docked points. Clubs would soon learn how to budget if the penalties were in place they wouldn't spend money they haven't got because the risk of relegation would probably outweigh the benefits of promotion.

A few of them are probably life long Bolton fans and this might be their one and only chance to play in a "first team" game. Others will see it as a game that will get lots of media attention so could get their name out there - after all they could all be without a club in a few weeks. If they chose to play it the blame doesn't lie with them but with the previous owners of Bolton Wanderers who got the club in this mess in the first place. However, they won't be affected by any future outcomes because they got out of their years ago.
