City Centre Investment

Pete bloody marquis!!!! Are they going to leave any business for anybody else like. I bet Pete's feeling sweet

He even has a random pete marquis skip on a corner of a country road. How can we compete with Pete
If you are on about the skip opposite the Windmill pub near Springfields Fuels Ltd, its maybe because he lives at the large house behind it.

A couple of beautiful dogs live there. Had the joy of meeting them a while back. Like big teddies ?

Looks like this place is set for approval.

Didn't realise till I drove past yesterday that the existing building has already been flattened.

It's built up round there anyway and the previous building was sat empty for years, hopefully it can have a knock on effect with the surrounding streets and result in a few new businesses round there.

That Balti Raj is shut on Pole Street and the Derby Court Hotel is an eye sore.

Ever known Preston to have so many developments in the centre at one time?

Adelphi Quarter,
New cinema complex, restaurants and car park on the old indoor market,
Shankly Hotel,
Miller Park Hotel,
Caxton Hotel planned for Friargate,
Booths HQ apartments rennovation,
'Urban park' at the bus station...

Have I missed any?

After a bit of googling, that lot has cost around:

Adelphi Quarter - £60m - Uclan planning to spend £200m over a ten year period.
New cinema complex, restaurants and car park on the old indoor market - £50m
Shankly Hotel - £15m
Miller Park Hotel - ?
Caxton Hotel planned for Friargate - ?
Booths HQ apartments rennovation - £2.5m
'Urban park' at the bus station - £2.75m

You would have to be a seriously miserable bastard to put a downer on all this.

The more infrastructure like this, the more independent businesses and big name shops & bars that come to Preston.

Pretty excited to see what Preston looks like in 5 years time.
No spud u like though
Very poor

I heard today that the Shankly? Hotel is not going to happen and folks have lost money on it,mis it true? Also the weir in the Ribble is going on 2020

The Shankly hotel not happening would be a blow. Hadn’t they added all the steel work to that extension at the top? Will all look a bit of a clusterfuck if it is just left now.

Not sure what this Weir in the Ribble is however?

Work stopped on The Shankly hotel some time ago. With that and The Guild Hall, which is half boarded up at the front and the total lack of anything Christmassy on the Market Square, The centre of Preston Is looking a bit drab

Public transport is going to have to significantly improve for town to become more vibrant.

We have no trams and a poor, expensive bus service. Which results in the city centre just being flooded with cars all the time.

A full pedestrianisation of the main high streets plus significant investment into local / public transport such as trams, local rail services is required to stop Preston city centre simply dying out IMO.

The weir at the back of where courtaulds was, plenty folk paddle round there and it has been enjoyed by many probably over the years, they reckon it should be removed but some reckon it would be a bad move.

Years ago a kid drowned playing on that weir so I'm surprised it's still there or at least not fenced off. Because it's been there for so long if it was to be removed then it would have an impact on the local fish populations and further knock-ons to local wildlife.
