Mads Frokjaer

Awful again tonight.

Talented player but this is now 5 games on the spin.

Let's call it reet.

Needs to do more Fancy flicks and overhit passes don't cut it
Agreed. People like him because he ‘tries’ things others don’t but his overall output is very poor.

He does much more wrong than he does right. Very frustrating player.

Thing is we are so bereft of creativity when we play only Mads or Millar, all the opposition need to do is smother them and we won't create anything as a consequence. Having both means we can exploit the fact that one will always be free to create.
Hmmm, smother the opposition.
Maybe we could try that, instead of constantly backing off them an giving them all the time in the world to approach the 18 yard box without any challenge! 🤔

Those on here who think Mads is premier league quality are deluded. He's having about one good game in six in the championship and that's when he can get a start. Also laughable is those suggesting Lowe has some sort of inferiority complex about players who are better than he ever was and therefore he doesn't like them.

It's interesting isn't it? We put a good shift in when we played Southampton at home, and that's when we were pressing them. We didn't yesterday.

Bit odd that people are singling out Mads for yesterday. Not a single player or member of the coaching staff turned up

Holmes, Lindsay and Whatmough might as well have been wearing Southampton shirts in the first half and Riis looks mentally checked out as if he’s already got a move lined up

Completely tuned out again. It reminded me of the Middlesbrough debacle. The players just lacked all belief and energy.

OK, we were missing a lot of our first choice midfield, and energetic players at that. Can accept being a bit clunky in possession but even with the team as set out we should be able to create a more effective defensive shape and be prepared to put the yards in to make it work.

The histrionics are an absolute mystery - although it’s not only our manager. Does he think waving his arms around and gesturing for a sub to get ready means that a player won’t make a mistake next time?

On the shooting, are we back to the old only take on high percentage shots, something a previous player confirmed they were told to do?

Frokjaer was very poor yesterday and ordinarily deserved to get taken off - but only if we replaced him. We didn’t replace him and there was a big hole in our team. So, the decision to take him off was understandable (although I wouldn’t have done so) but the decision to not put someone in his position was puzzling at best.
So they are weighing it up before taking a punt? No wonder they look scared to shoot.

Mads shows glimpses of quality but it’s not enough…Stuart Armstrong last night was quality on the pitch and it was not a case of one or two key passes he was constantly on the ball pulling the strings which is what we need from Mads.

Last night summed up Mads ability to me. He is technically very good with the ball at his feet. But his general awareness is woeful. How many passes last night went straight to the opposition and not a PNE player even close by. I think he tends to play with his head down and just hits balls into areas where he hopes players are. Millar on the pitch makes him look outstanding. Last night as other recent games he just looks a liability.
Is it Millar making him look very good,
or is it others that make him look poor?

The difference is, Armstrong is passing to quality players. They create space for him. They can pass back to their defenders in their own half and start again, therefore, creating space in our half.
Mads was getting the ball in our own half and getting smothered within a second and there was no outlet because we only had 3 attackers on the pitch and 7 defending.
He hasn’t been brilliant by any stretch but if you switched him and Armstrong last night. You’d be saying the same thing about him.

Mads cannot be expected to weave magic without the ball or without support. When McCann or Browne or Ledson or Whiteman - or even better a combination of them win the ball and get it to him, I believe that he's a cracking Championship player. The partnership of a Rookie (however promising he apparently is) and a reserve central defender (no matter what a good bloke he apparently is) was never likely to get our schemer enough ball.

I'd agree, you need to be outstanding to make anything out of last night's team performance.

Its not a criticism to say that Mads isn't at that level yet. Maybe he will be one day.

Probably the only player we've had in the last 25 years who could make a difference like that is peak Ricardo Fuller.
