Serious Question - would we be better off releggated from a financial point of view.?
Its fact we lose millions every season and Hemmings keep us a float but would the loses be less in L1

  • Crowds would drop but not by much and I think the ticket prices would stay the same, so for me no major drop in revenue
  • Salaries of staff would be substantailly lower
  • TV revenue much lower
  • lower sponshorship money
  • lower match day costs
I dont know the numbers here, but I strongly expect that due to the drop in salaries, being in L would mean reduced annual loses.

Discuss?

I think ticket prices would increase to off set the loss of fans who won’t purchase to watch league 1 football. Most championship games are a hard watch for football quality and league 1 is a lot worse.

I could see us doing another ambassador scheme to entice fans to buy them if we went down like last time

Absolutely not. Ridiculous thought. However the owners would probably lose less money.

Thats exactly my point - the club would run at a lower deficit in L1.
Not saying I wnat that, but if that if the numbers do lean that way maybe certain parties dont care either way.

If we want to actually change things on the field, without a massive budgetary overall, League 1 is a much easier level for young players to develop.

If there is any hope of overhauling the squad and trying to develop actual assets to play and to sell and increase the budget that way, it might not be ideal, but could be a silver lining if we were to go down.

Robinson, DJ, Browne, Brownhill, Hugill all found their feet in the squad at that level. Davies too, albeit out on loan. We certainly don't see that happening at Championship level, and would they have ever had a chance to settle if we had never gone down, or been passed over for 'Championship experience' because of the fear of relegation?

Losses would be lower and more manageable from a cynical point of view, if the current £10m a year hit is starting to bite this hierarchy. Not saying they want this, but in that context some at the top might not be too down upon relegation.

It would be a disaster for the club from a football standpoint though. Anybody who has notions of a reset following relegation or a 'we need it to have a clearout' argument is living in cloud cuckoo land. Just take a look at Rovers who exited the Prem and have never returned. That's what would happen here upon relegation, only we'd be stuck in League One for years wondering when we'll make it back to the Championship.

The only solution here is for Ms Revitt, Craig and Ridsdale to leave the building and hand the reins over to people with a bit of life about them.

I'm not sure any of our younger recruits are up to league 1 level. I mean how many have we sent out on loan to actual league clubs and how successful have they been?

The landscape of football has changed somewhat since then, the days of cheap deals for young players of DJ’s quality don’t happen. Teams sign them up to 4 or 5 year deals and loan them out in the hope of selling for a few million with buy back clauses if they do well. The ones allowed to leave are the like of Stewart who couldn’t even get a game when we had 1 fit striker who we ran into the ground.

A ridiculous suggestion, and noticeably mainly advocated by people who don't actually physically attend very much.
Crowds WOULD go down and probably quite significantly.
It took Leeds a good few years to get back from that level, with all there resources.
We could well do a Bradford City, a similar size Club to ourselves.
We spent almost 30 years in the bottom 2 Divisions, almost going out of Business, so no thank you.

or we could call it "The Golden Ticket" scheme, sure I have heard of this before, I wonder who thought of this????

Losses would be lower, but so would income.

We don't know what the owners would do, but it's a fair bet they'd copy the old man initially - last time we were relegated, turnover halved, but so did the wage bill. With the reduced budget we could only afford Westley's madhouse, and we didn't get out of L1 until we significantly ratcheted the budget and professionalism back up again.

Again, we don't know what the current owners would do, what their "ambitions" would be, nothing. They don't share that sort of information with mere fans.

But relegation is coming anyway if we don't change strategy - not necessarily this season, but soon enough - so it's best not to think about the prospect as Armageddon, more just another place for us to settle into mid-table, possibly for a loooong time.

The question was would the club be better off finacially. i.e. lose less money in L1,?
